Shout 'Um' Out Saturdays!

Today we are highlighting another organization near and dear to my heart as it is run by one of the kindest humans I have had the pleasure of meeting in the last few years;

Shwop opened in April of 2012. It was born out of the need to keep things in rotation (out of landfills) and implementing the fun of thrifting and swapping clothes. Marci, Shwop's incredible owner, wanted a different way to do things since Portland was/is saturated with consignment and buy/sell/trade places. She felt a lot of those places made her feel badly when bringing a bag of clothes to them. Marci had a dream of wanting to do things differently and build community. The idea of memberships came up from a former job in finance. She personally feels Shwop makes things both easier and more fun!

The US is such a different place right now. Things feel up in the air. But you know, used clothing is something that people still buy in a recession so the idea was to make that the focus. However, this innovative woman has changed the way things are moving forward. Shwop will be a members only shop (members pay a monthly swapping fee) with a few events a month for those who want to shop retail. They are still donating to non-profits and have one group who brings their clients in to shop for items they need. Donations help to be able to provide for others as well as any excess from members. The goal is to keep things out of the landfills, build community and keep things enjoyable!

If you would like to participate in helping Shwop thrive, you can come to the events, join the membership and/or donate your great used clothes, shoes and accessories, and tell people all about the incredible work they are doing there! All of those things help and keep Shwop going and building toward more that they can do for our communities.

Way to aid in helping the planet, being there for the community, and having a great time while doing it!
