Rose Engelfried

ree

Rose was raised doing art. As someone who was homeschooled, art was part of how she learned to see and interact with the world. As a teenager Rose painted and drew, and ultimately thought she would go to art school. Then life happened, and paths changed.  Nevertheless, art has always brought her joy. Rose feels more whole, human and overall happy when creating. Now, quilting brings Rose the most peace. She loves it even more because it's something Rose happily gets to share with her mom as well.

"In your own words, what does Generosity mean to you?"

Rose: “To me, generosity means sharing what we have, not because we want something in return but because we are living beings sharing a planet and a home. If life is about anything, it's about love, and generosity keeps love alive.”

I love that summarization that generosity is love. That is the simplest way to describe such a magnanimously beautiful word and there is no greater way to express it than to do something for someone else purely out of the love that you have within you to show to others. Perfectly said Rose.

"Have you had a time when a moment of Generosity has greatly impacted you?"

Rose: "Last week, I lost someone I love very much. The next day I had to go to work and be on for people. One of my coworkers who I trust was there and I told her what had happened, and she just hugged me and let me cry in her arms. She couldn't bring my loved one back, and there was nothing she could say that would take the pain away, but she held space for my sadness and let me know I wasn't alone. She gave me her time and her emotional strength, and when I thanked her later, she told me not to mention it. She didn't want anything in return. She just showed up and showed me love.

Firstly, we all here at Generous-City would like to express how sorry we are to hear about your loss and the pain you must be experiencing. Additionally, we are so glad to hear you had someone who was willing to be a generous shoulder for you to lean on. The love of a friend can at times make all the difference in the world. Thank you for sharing this with us.

Rose, we want to express how thankful we are, not just for you being willing to share your story and perspectives with us, for blessing us with your delightful art, but ultimately for being a steadfast definition of someone who exudes generosity every single day. You truly are a joy. Thank you!
